Earth Memory: Maindh_Lab’s project featured by Globalist

Paolo Clini discusses research with Walter Villadei: virtual reality, avatars and AI to help astronauts retain a connection with Earth.

In an interview published by Globalist on 6 October, Paolo Clini describes Earth Memory, a Università Politecnica delle Marche project developed with astronaut Walter Villadei. It explores how immersive experiences, avatars and AI could support astronauts’ wellbeing and their connection with places and people on Earth.

A prototype was presented at BEX 2026 in Rimini. Testing it in space remains a research objective: as Clini explains, the device still faces constraints involving size, weight, power and computing capacity. AI supports people; people retain responsibility for significant decisions.
